New Street Drugs
The new street drugs of today are like a tornado in the brain, leaving in its
wake emotional and chemical chaos. New street drugs is a term used for all drugs
sold illegally. Street drugs are the worst drugs because they are the most dangerous.
This is because they cause more deaths than any other drug every year. Street
drugs are illegal because of their harmful effects. These drugs are hard to
stop due to the people selling them. Street drugs are sold by pushers or drug
dealers.
Types of New Street Drugs:
Marijuana: Marijuana is a green, brown, or gray mixture of dried, shredded leaves,
stems, seeds, and flowers of the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa). Cannabis is a
term that refers to marijuana and other drugs made from the same plant. Other
forms of cannabis include sinsemilla, hashish, and hash oil. All forms of cannabis
are mind-altering (psychoactive) drugs.
Cocaine: Pure cocaine was first used in the 1880s as a local anesthetic in
the eye, nose, and throat. It was used in surgeries because of its ability to
provide anesthesia as well as to constrict blood vessels and limit bleeding.
Many of its therapeutic applications are now obsolete though due to the development
of safer drugs.
Heroin: Heroin, a highly addictive drug, is the most abused and the most rapidly
acting of the opiates. Heroin is processed from morphine, a naturally occurring
substance extracted from the seed pod of certain varieties of poppy plants.
PCP/Angel Dust: PCP is a white crystalline powder that is readily soluble in
water or alcohol. It has a distinctive bitter chemical taste. PCP can be mixed
easily with dyes and turns up on the illicit drug market in a variety of tablets,
capsules, and colored powders. It is normally used in one of three ways: snorted,
smoked, or orally ingested. For smoking, PCP is often applied to a leafy material
such as mint, parsley, oregano, or marijuana.
Meth: Methamphetamine is a highly addictive central nervous system stimulant
that can be injected, snorted, smoked, or ingested orally. Methamphetamine users
feel a short, yet intense, "rush" when the drug is initially administered.
The effects of methamphetamine include increased activity, decreased appetite,
and a sense of well being that can last from 20 minutes to 12 hours.
Ecstasy: Producing both stimulant and psychedelic effects, MDMA (ecstasy) is
often used at parties because it enables party-goers to dance and remain active
for long periods of time. This substance is usually ingested in tablet form,
but can also be crushed and snorted, injected, or used in suppository form.
