Drugs, alcohol killed Rhode Island woman

WESTERLY, Rhode Island - A toxicology report has confirmed that a woman found dead in a Misquamicut, Rhode Island home two months ago succumbed to the combined effects of drugs and alcohol.

Diane C. Hulsey, 29, and Anthony Durante, 36, were found dead of apparent drug overdoses in their Linwood Avenue home with their two young children nearby. The couple's children - a 21-month-old boy and an 8-month-old girl - were unharmed and turned over to the Division of Children, Youth and Families.

Toxicology reports indicate that Hulsey died of acute intoxication resulting from the combined effects of ethanol and fentanyl. Ethanol is defined as alcohol and fentanyl is a narcotic.

Sources indicate that fentanyl is a long-acting opiate used to treat severe pain. Fentanyl can come in a patch form for extended release and can be particularly toxic if the patch is compromised to ensure immediate release of the drug, a source said.

Rhode Island police discovered the deaths after a concerned relative went to the Linwood Avenue house to check on the couple, who hadn't been seen for days. At the time, Rhode Island police confirmed that there was evidence of drug use in the house, and found a latent needle and evidence of the powerful prescription painkiller Oxycotin. Oxycotin, a synthetic opiate, is said to have been responsible for many overdose deaths in recent years.

The couple and their children were not well known in the Misquamicut, Rhode Island neighborhood, having apparently moved there in the beginning of September, sources said. They reportedly moved to Rhode Island from Philadelphia last November and stayed with Durante's family.

Durante was employed as a money counter at Foxwoods Resorts Casino and Hulsey worked at the Westerly Wal-Mart. Before moving to Rhode Island, Durante was a semi-professional wrestler with the "Pitbulls" tag-team duo in the ECW Wrestling League. Durante had a criminal record in Pennsylvania that included charges of selling marijuana and steroids.

No charges were filed as a result of the deaths
